Cost: $15.43 total, $1.29 per serving
Ingredients
- 24 pieces Sugar Cookies (plain round cookies, store‑bought or homemade)
- 2 cups Royal Icing (store‑bought or homemade (powdered sugar, egg white, lemon juice))
- 1 tsp Red Gel Food Coloring (gel provides vibrant color without thinning icing)
- 0.5 cup Rainbow Sprinkles (for adding sparkle and color)
- 1 tsp Edible Glitter (optional) (adds extra sparkle for special occasions)
Instructions
Prepare the Royal Icing (if making from scratch)
In a mixing bowl combine 3 cups powdered sugar, 1 large egg white, and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. Beat on medium speed until smooth and glossy, about 5 minutes. If the icing is too thick, add a few drops of water; if too runny, add more powdered sugar.
Time: PT10M
Color the Icing
Divide the icing into a small bowl (if you need multiple colors). Add 1 tsp red gel food coloring to the portion that will become the emoji faces. Mix until the color is uniform.
Time: PT2M
Transfer Icing to Piping Bag
Fit the piping bag with a small round tip (#2). Spoon the colored icing into the bag, then twist the top to seal and push the icing down to the tip.
Time: PT2M
Pipe Emoji Faces on Cookies
Place the plain sugar cookies on a plate or cooling rack. Using steady pressure, pipe simple emoji expressions (smile, heart eyes, wink) onto each cookie. Keep designs about 1‑inch in diameter.
Time: PT10M
Add Sprinkles and Glitter
While the icing is still wet, sprinkle rainbow sprinkles and, if desired, a pinch of edible glitter over the designs to add sparkle.
Time: PT5M
Allow Icing to Set
Let the decorated cookies sit at room temperature until the icing hardens completely, about 15 minutes.
Time: PT15M
