Classic Puppy Chow (Muddy Buddies)

Ingredients

• 7 cups Chex Cereal (Rice Chex preferred; corn Chex works too)
• 1.5 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (Good quality chips melt smoothly)
• 0.75 cup Creamy Peanut Butter (Smooth, not chunky)
• 6 tablespoons Salted Butter (Cut into tablespoon pieces for even melting)
• 0.25 teaspoon Salt (Only if using unsalted butter)
• 0.5 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (Pure vanilla recommended)
• 2.5 cups Powdered Sugar (Adjust to taste; can add more if needed)

Instructions

1. Measure the Cereal

   Place 7 cups of Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl.

2. Combine Coating Ingredients

   In a heatproof bowl, add 1.5 cups semi‑sweet chocolate chips, 0.75 cup creamy peanut butter, 6 tablespoons softened salted butter, and 0.25 tsp salt (if using unsalted butter). Stir lightly to combine.

3. Melt the Coating

   Microwave the bowl in 30‑second intervals, stirring after each burst, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted (about 2 minutes total).

4. Add Vanilla

   Stir in 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract until evenly distributed.

5. Coat the Cereal

   Pour the melted chocolate‑peanut butter mixture over the Chex cereal. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold and turn the cereal until every piece is fully coated.

6. Add Powdered Sugar

   Sprinkle 2.5 cups powdered sugar over the coated cereal and toss with the spatula until the mixture is evenly dusted. Add more sugar if needed.
