Troubleshooting
The baklava is dry after baking
Ensure the syrup was hot and the baklava was still warm when poured. Slightly increase the amount of syrup.
The phyllo dough tears during assembly
Lightly dampen the cloth covering the sheets and work quickly. Use small droplets of butter instead of large amounts.
The baklava becomes soggy after a few hours
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume quickly. Avoid moisture by not covering directly with plastic film.
Storage
Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for 3‑4 days. The crunch remains optimal the same day or the next.
Freezer: Can be frozen for up to 1 month, but the layers will lose some crunch.
Room temperature: Consume the same day if kept at room temperature.
Make-Ahead Tips
- Prepare the syrup ahead of time and keep it warm before using.
- The rolls can be assembled and refrigerated up to 12 hours before baking.
- Honey can be added just before serving for extra shine.
