Dice the onion, mince the garlic, and shred the lettuce. Measure out the taco seasoning and other ingredients.

Sauté Garlic and Onion
Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and diced onion, stirring until the onion becomes translucent and the mixture is fragrant, about 3–4 minutes.
Time: PT5M
Temperature: Medium heat
Brown the Ground Beef
Add the 1 lb ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook, stirring occasionally, until fully browned and no longer pink, about 8–10 minutes.
Time: PT10M
Temperature: Medium‑high heat
Season the Beef
Stir in 2 tbsp homemade taco seasoning and ¼ cup water. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 4–5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Time: PT5M
Temperature: Low heat
Drain Excess Fat
Tilt the pan and carefully pour off any excess fat into a heat‑proof container, or use a slotted spoon to transfer the seasoned beef to a clean bowl.
Time: PT2M
Cook the Rice
While the beef simmers, rinse 1 cup uncooked white rice until water runs clear. Combine with 2 cups water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil, then cover and reduce to low for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing.
Time: PT15M
Temperature: Boil then low simmer
Assemble the Taco Bowls
Divide the cooked rice among four serving bowls. Top each with an equal portion of seasoned beef, shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, a generous scoop of pico de gallo, and drizzle with hot sauce.
