- 2 tbsp White Vinegar (for wiping rims and a splash in the water bath to prevent cloudiness)
- 6 Mason Jars (16‑oz) (cleaned and sterilized; leave ½ inch headspace)
- 6 Two‑Piece Canning Lids (new lids recommended for a reliable seal)
- 6 Metal Ring Bands (use fingertip‑tight, do not overtighten)
Instructions
Prepare Jars and Lids
Wash the Mason jars, lids, and rings in hot, soapy water. Rinse well and let air‑dry or dry with a clean towel.

Fill Jars with Water
Using a funnel, pour chilled water into each jar, leaving a ½ inch headspace at the top.
Time: PT3M
Debubble and Clean Rims
Run a non‑metallic utensil (spoon or bubble remover) around the inside of each jar to release trapped air bubbles. Wipe the rim of each jar with a paper towel dipped in white vinegar.
Time: PT2M
Apply Lids and Rings
Place a two‑piece lid on each jar. Screw the metal ring on fingertip‑tight; do not overtighten.
Time: PT2M
Prepare the Water Bath
Fill the water bath canner with enough water to cover the jars by 1–2 inches. Add a splash (about 1 tbsp) of white vinegar to the bath to keep the water clear.
Time: PT2M
Process the Jars
Carefully place the jars into the canner using the jar lifter. Cover with the canner lid and bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
Time: PT5M
Boil for 20 Minutes
Once a rolling boil is reached, start the timer and boil for 20 minutes.
Time: PT20M
Temperature: 212°F
Remove and Cool Jars
Using the jar lifter, remove each hot jar and place it on a clean kitchen towel. Let the jars sit untouched for 12–24 hours to cool and develop a seal.
Time: PT15M
Check Seals and Store
After 12–24 hours, press the center of each lid. If it does not flex, the jar is sealed. Remove the ring, label the jar with the date, and store in a cool, dark place.
