Troubleshooting

The lentils are too soft or mushy.

Reduce the amount of water and/or decrease the pressure cooking time by 2‑3 minutes.

The lentils remain hard.

Check that the lentils were properly soaked; increase cooking time by 3‑5 minutes.

The dish is too dry.

Add a little hot water and simmer for 2‑3 minutes without pressure.

The chili makes the dish too spicy.

Remove the chili before serving and add a drizzle of plain yogurt or lemon to mellow.

Storage

Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container 3‑4 days.

Freezer: Can be frozen for 2 months; thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

Room temperature: Do not leave at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Make-Ahead Tips

  • Soak the lentils the night before to save time on the day.
